Big Apple Fest 2018 + New Tutorial!

This past weekend Bob and I attended Big Apple Fest in Oneida, Wisconsin! If you have never been, you should try and go next year- especially if you like apples! The fest is at the Oneida Cultural Heritage Village and it is not only fun and educational, but free too! And as a bonus they will shuttle you to the Oneida Nation Apple Orchard (for free) and you can pick your own apples!

Now if you have been following my work, you know my pie won Best Looking Pie at last years fest! So I HAD to go back this year and defend my title!

So did I do it? Did I defend my title?

Yes!

See BOTH my award winning pies below:

The Best Looking Pie award is a people's choice award- everyone at the fest votes on their favorite pie! Thank you again to everyone that voted for this pie!

Even though the pie won, it doesn't mean that I didn't have my fair share of trouble creating it! I spent about an hour and a half thinly slicing apples and arranging them in little roses inside my pie crust. Then I spent another hour molding different pearls and rope to form a lattice with more molded roses.

After I baked it, I decided I didn't like the look, so I tore off the whole top crust and then sat trying to decide what to do about my half finished pie. I eventually had a friend stop by and she suggested just create new roses and leaves. So I created a braid around the edge and formed a few quick roses and rebaked the pie for about 15 minutes- until the top crust was done. Obviously, those decisions paid off!

So what else is happening with Cakes by Kristi? A NEW tutorial has been released- just in time for Halloween! In this time lapse, you can see how to create your own spooky Eyeball Rose!
